Prenatal Breastfeeding Consultation
This is a personalized, private prenatal fourth trimester planning session that uses your unique health history, lifestyle and infant feeding goals as the foundation for helping you navigate your feeding journey with confidence.
Together, we’ll walk through the ‘how’ and ‘why’ your body makes milk, what realistically expect in the early days and weeks, create a feeding plan and discuss how to set you up for success helping you feel informed, prepared, and supported as you enter the fourth trimester.
During your session, we will cover:
• What to expect in the first hours and days after birth — including skin-to-skin, the first feed, normal newborn feeding behavior, and what those early days actually look like.
Understanding milk production — colostrum, secretory activation/"milk coming in," supply regulation, and what is normal versus concerning.
Newborn feeding patterns — frequency, cluster feeding, feeding cues, and why schedules don't always tell the whole story.
How to know baby is getting enough — beyond just watching the clock, including diapers, swallowing, behavior, weight trends, and when to seek additional support.
Protecting breastfeeding goals when birth doesn't go as planned — cesarean birth, separation, NICU admission, sleepy baby, supplementation, delayed milk production, etc.
Supplementation planning, if needed — how to supplement while protecting milk production and breastfeeding goals, without the all-or-nothing mindset.
Partner/support person education — how they can actually support breastfeeding rather than just “bring you water.”
Preparing your home for postpartum feeding — realistic essentials, setting up feeding/pumping stations, what you actually need versus what you can skip.
Bottle introduction and paced bottle feeding — especially for families planning to combination feed, return to work, or have another caregiver involved.
Pumping basics — when you actually need to pump, when you don't, milk storage/handling, and creating a pumping plan for separation or return to work.
Solids & weaning — appropriate expectations and support navigating.
A personalized “what if” plan — essentially: If feeding gets off track, here’s who to contact, what to watch for, and what our next steps could look like.
This is a very laid back, involved and fun learning experience offering you the time to ask questions, talk through concerns, and receive guidance that is completely tailored to you and your family.
This experience is ideal for first-time parents, those who had a previous challenging feeding journey, or anyone looking for a more supported and intentional start.
My goal is simple: to help you enter the postpartum period informed, prepared, and confident as you begin your breastfeeding journey.
The best thing you can do for yourself for baby’s arrival is be prepared, be educated and surround yourself with support.
